Tribute to Myron Cope

"It's a sad day for Steeler Nation," long-time broadcast partner Bill Hillgrove said. "But I think Myron would prefer we celebrate his life. He was a true, loyal friend."

Hillgrove worked with Cope for 11 years, beginning in 1994. Myron Cope with his raspy voice calling the Steelers games retired a couple of years ago after a stroke but Myron kept his presence known on Pittsburgh. The Pittsburgh Steeler fans loved to see him on TV. Myron personified the Pittsburgh Steeler fans, and their loyalty. He was there for the Steeler dynasty for many years.

Myron Cope And The Terrible Towel

In addition to his broadcast duties, Cope is famous for creating the Terrible Towel, a black-and-gold terry cloth symbol of the Steelers.

The towel was invented in December 1975 when Cope was looking for a way to inspire fans for a playoff game against the then-Baltimore Colts. At the Steeler games you will see the Terrible Towel Wave a sign of The Pittsburgh Steeler fans support.

Today we wave our towels in tribute to Myron Cope Steeler broadcaster.
